Pocaty River Solar

Community Solar

City of Chesapeake, Virginia

Development

Pocaty River Solar is a 2 megawatt community solar project in development in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. Developed by ESA and Apex Clean Energy, the project will serve approximately 400 low- to moderate-income households through Virginia’s Shared Solar Program. Located on 9 acres of a 26-acre parcel, the site preserves existing vegetation and includes new native buffers to reduce visual impact. The project will connect to a nearby distribution line feeding the Hickory Substation and use fixed-tilt panels with central inverters for efficient, low-impact energy generation. Pocaty River Solar is expected to provide $4.3 million in lifetime energy savings, avoid 1,400 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, and generate $145,000 in local tax revenue over its 35-year lifespan.
