AdventHealth flips the switch for on-site renewable energy project
March 18, 2025
AdventHealth’s corporate campus solar energy project has been completed and is now fully operational, making it one of the largest privately owned solar projects in Florida.
Located at the AdventHealth corporate headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida, the new 3-megawatt solar photovoltaic system advances the health system’s goal to cut emissions in half by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Key features include the following:
Over 7,500 solar panels installed across the rooftops of four buildings, two parking garages, covered walkways and parking canopies.
Enhanced campus amenities: Adds 62 electric vehicle charging ports and incorporates covered parking for hundreds of surface parking spots.
Substantial energy savings: Produces an estimated 4,200-megawatt hours annually -- enough to power over 550 homes each year -- supplying approximately a third of the campus' electricity needs.
"Completing this solar energy installation is one of the many ways we’re thoughtfully stewarding the natural resources entrusted to us," said Olesea Azevedo, chief administrative officer for AdventHealth. "By harnessing renewable energy on our corporate campus, we are making a long-term commitment to reducing our environmental impact and building momentum toward our sustainability goals that will benefit generations to come."
The project, developed in collaboration with solar development platform ESA, began construction in 2024 and was strategically designed and executed through close coordination with the city of Altamonte Springs and Duke Energy.
"Working with the AdventHealth team on this project has been incredibly rewarding. We are proud of this meaningful contribution to AdventHealth’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term economic and environmental impact,” said Morgan Brawner, chief revenue officer for ESA. “ESA worked closely with AdventHealth to evaluate their entire portfolio, identifying the corporate campus as the ideal location for this pilot project. By integrating multiple solar technologies, including rooftop and carport installations, this campus now serves as a model for future onsite solar projects across their facilities. With this project complete, it demonstrates how the healthcare sector is uniquely positioned to lead in climate action and renewable energy solutions."
This initiative is a milestone on AdventHealth’s broader clean energy roadmap, which includes on-site renewable projects and power purchase agreements that leverage off-site wind and solar farms.
In 2022, AdventHealth reaffirmed its commitment by joining the HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge, publishing a Climate Resilience Plan, an annual Sustainability Report and expanding its renewable energy investments across the system.
