Rehrig Pacific had already taken meaningful steps toward their sustainability goals, including completing baseline assessments across their portfolio. However, with limited internal bandwidth, they sought guidance to move from planning to action—especially when it came to addressing both owned and leased properties. While motivated to move forward, they were unsure which opportunities to pursue first and how to overcome barriers like third-party property ownership.
ESA partnered with Rehrig Pacific to evaluate their facility portfolio, identifying sites with the highest potential for carbon reduction through on-site solar. Together, the teams prioritized locations for immediate impact, particularly focusing on new construction and high-energy-use sites.
One key milestone in the collaboration was ESA’s support in navigating the complexities of a leased facility in Orlando. Understanding the importance of this site to Rehrig’s goals, ESA worked directly with the building owner to secure approval for solar installation. By structuring a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Rehrig was able to access clean energy at the site without upfront capital, advancing their sustainability mission despite not owning the property. The team at Rehrig noted how valuable ESA’s advocacy and strategic guidance were in helping them overcome what initially felt like an immovable barrier.
Through their collaboration with ESA, Rehrig Pacific transformed intention into action—strategically advancing their sustainability efforts across both owned and leased properties. The solar installation at the Orlando site proved that progress is possible even in challenging ownership scenarios.
